    My advice to all customers: Be vigilent. Take plenty of photos and videos upon pick up and drop off to cover yourself as you never know what these dirty sneaky companies will cheat you with.. it could be the smallest scratch or chip.

    Come on – sort this out. I travel a lot and always go with Avis – only reason I went with Redspot was because Avis couldn’t guarantee a baby seat on this occasion. This is the best possible advert for Avis - who are genuinely outstanding.

    - do not expect to have a reasonable conversation with a member of their staff

    $1000 bond (for Australian passport holders) was slow to return and not at full amount (probably some bs surcharge that was not mentioned upon pick up).

    Quick efficient pick up. Quick efficient drop off. Car was clean. So all good.

    We rented a Kia Rio on Friday night at Sydney Domestic airport. The staff member that night was very polite and friendly, and indicated that "there is no existing damage on the vehicle". Unfortunately it was 10:30pm at night and while it appears the vehicle had no damage, we didn't do a thorough check. When we arrived at our accommodation I noticed a sizeable dent in one of the panels of the car.

    When we returned the vehicle on Sunday, I let the staff member know that we observed the dent and were certain that this was not caused by us. Following this, another staff member yelled out and chased after us in the car park, demanding that we accept responsibility for the dent and also accept that we will be charged the $4,400 damage liability fee. I insisted that I was not at fault and suggested that human error on both sides was the issue - Redspot had not recorded the dent before I hired the car and I failed to thoroughly check the vehicle. I was informed that "it is impossible that we would have missed this damage" and realised I was not dealing with a reasonable person.

    At that point I became extremely upset and frustrated, I knew I was not going to able to resolve the issue with them. I informed the staff member that I disagree with the accusation that I damaged the car. He said "you can appeal but I am charging you the $4,400 damage liability fee!". I felt powerless and unwell, so decided to disengage with the staff member.

    4. 3 weeks after handing the car back, they still have my $1,000 bond – I called again and the accounts clerk says they are waiting for the paperwork to arrive from the branch. Really? The paperwork? What year is it? Maybe they can’t send it because they have one hand on their pagers and the other on their Rubik’s cubes. Or maybe the paper in their fax machine has jammed.

    Fortunately for me, I have insurance cover through my credit card provider, however I would like to point out the following:

    Worst car rental experience ever.

    In the airport terminal I checked my credit card and noticed I had been immediately charged $4,400 for the damage liability fee, with no additional details.

    2. We needed to extend the rental by 1 week. We called the number, to be told that we had to go to the airport in person to extend. Can you believe that? We did it, it was a Saturday mid-morning, we had to queue for 45 minutes before getting served. During that time, I nearly got into a fight with another customer who jumped the queue. When I was eventually served, the price was $200 more than the agent on the phone had quoted. Over 1 hour later, with aforementioned crying child stuck in the car, we eventually got on our way.

    1. Arrived after a long flight with a crying baby. Car was not ready, and when it eventually was, the car seat was not installed; overall it took 45 minutes from the start to getting going;

    Rented the vehicle for 3 nights. The vehicle was in shocking condition. Lots of scratches and dints unmarked on the damage report. (Luckily took a video of the vehicle upon pick up and drop off.) Returned vehicle before 6am via the early bird drop box. About 3-4 days later saw a debit of $330 from my account without a single phone call or email to warn me. Called them to find out it was the excess for returning the vehicle with a chipped windscreen. I then looked through the video I had taken of the vehicle upon pick up and found subject damage was already pre existing upon pick up. Refund was made thankfully but if i was not as vigilent as i was i could easily have been ripped off.

    charged the holding fee on my account, never gave it back. Forced me to pay for upgrade because of gps which didn't work, turned it back in after 1 day and they double charged me for the car. I was supposed to get the vehicle for $25 or so a day and they erroneously charged over $200... For one day with a faulty vehicle. This place is a scam. Right now I have a dispute on my credit card about them. Do not rent from this place. You have been warned.

    Previous experience however was a lesson in not paying the website insurance - do it at pickup.

    3. When we returned the car, another 30 minute wait to be served. Just to hand back a car!
